DIYProperties.com: Self-build homes on the rise

The downturn in the economy has proved to be a boon for land prices in the UK and elsewhere. The price of land has fallen 20-30% in the last year, and an increasing number of people are seizing on the opportunity to create self-built properties.

The Daily Telegraph reports that times have rarely been better for the do-it-yourself, or DIY, builder:

“We have seen a surge in interest in self-build this year,” says John Day, head of financial services, marketing, at Buildstore, the specialist self-build lender. “The market has changed since the onset of the credit crunch, but it is still buoyant and money is still available. Lenders still see self-builders as a relatively good risk because of the equity built into such projects. The end value of a project is typically 20-25 per cent above the build cost.”

pfDomains.com has a number of lucrative property domains, including the perfect self-build domain, DIYProperties.com. Please view our Property Domain Portfolio.

UK Mobile Web Use Still Sluggish

The lack of mobile-compatible web sites, and the lack of useful content on those that exist seems to be the main reasons UK mobile users are still shunning the service at their fingertips, says a report by eMarketer. Telecoms watchdog OfCom said less than 12% of UK mobile users accessed the Net on their phone in July 2008.

Mobile Web advertising will gain ground in 2009, but financial constraints will prevent most UK advertisers from putting big money forward until audience numbers are much higher. Other areas such as mobile social networks will suffer, as neither the audience nor the marketing investment is there.
