There are around 800,000 UK citizens who follow the Sikh religion, the largest population of followers outside its native India.
From Wikipedia’s article on English Sikhs (there are also smaller populations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland):
The arrival of Sikhism in England is relatively recent but today there are just over 420,000 adherents and 300 gurudwaras in England with the largest communities in London, Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield. Leicester is also important having the largest Sikh community in the East Midlands and the eighth largest Sikh community in England. Leicester is also the home of the Guru Nanak Sikh Museum, the first Museum in England, the UK and probably Europe. Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Southall, UK.Southall, in London, is home to the largest Sikh temple outside India, known as Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha. It opened in 2003 after almost 3 years construction and a cost of £17 Million. Another large temple nearing completion is an £11m project to build the Gravesend gurdwara, which has been under construction for the past seven years, and is due to open in time for the Vaisakhi festival in 2009. In Sunderland, a former Church of England church has been transformed into a Sikh Gurdwara by the Sunderland Sikh Association.
From Wikipedia’s article on Sikhs worldwide:
Sikhism, founded on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and ten successive Sikh Gurus (the last one being the sacred text Guru Granth Sahib) in fifteenth century Punjab, is the fifth-largest organized religion in the world. This system of religious philosophy and expression has been traditionally known as the Gurmat (literally the counsel of the gurus) or the Sikh Dharma. Sikhism originated from the word Sikh, which in turn comes from the Sanskrit root ?isya meaning “disciple” or “learner”, or ?iksa meaning “instruction”. The principal belief of Sikhism is faith in waheguru—represented using the sacred symbol of ik onk?r, the Universal God. Sikhism advocates the pursuit of salvation through disciplined, personal meditation on the name and message of God. A key distinctive feature of Sikhism is a non-anthropomorphic concept of God, to the extent that one can interpret God as the Universe itself. The followers of Sikhism are ordained to follow the teachings of the ten Sikh gurus, or enlightened leaders, as well as the holy scripture entitled the Gur? Granth S?hib, which, along with the writings of six of the ten Sikh Gurus, includes selected works of many devotees from diverse socio-economic and religious backgrounds.

September 21st, 2009 — 3-Letter, Auctions, Business, Domain Extensions, Domain Sales
With the advent of Twitter and other social media, URL shortening services have been much in demand. There are plenty of free scripts out there for setting up such a service, but first you need a good, short, memorable URL to start with.
I’m offering, for a limited time, all of my three-character .net and .org domains for a $60 auction start (7 days duration) at Sedo. The average price for a 3-character .net varies greatly, depending upon the letter/number composition and order. For example, 1rd.net sold for $60, whereas k47.net went for $4,200 – both within the last few months. The fact they are 3-characters make these domains quite valuable from the outset. And remember, there are less combinations of domains available that have two numbers and a letter (10 x 10 x 26 = 2,600) than there are with two letters and a number (26 x 26 x 10 = 6,760).
These sort of domains are perfect for URL shortening services, or easy-for-others-to-remember personal web sites, or whatever you want to do with them.
Please view my 3-character domain page for the full list. All domains there are hyperlinked straight to Sedo for a quick auction start when you offer $60.
My 3-character .coms are also for sale on that page. I’m looking for $400+ for those. Offers welcome.
September 3rd, 2009 — Domain Extensions, news
It’s not the first domain appraisal scam, and it certainly won’t be the last, but I felt it was important to make a point of mentioning the latest one, pddomains.com, due to its similarity to my web site. Basically, they send an email stating they want to buy one of your domains and that they will offer you a percentage of the appraised value, provided you use their appraisal service, from which they make money. They actually have no interest in purchasing your domain.
Typographically, this domain is only millimetres away (on the keyboard) from my portfolio web site at pfDomains.com. I’d like to make it clear that I am not affiliated with these people!
This is the second scam in two day, the previous one being for macez.com. Former scams have included domains pozde.com, nameorange.com, tropicalnames.com, and flyappraisals.com, and there will be many more. It costs nothing to send an email, and just one unsuspecting domain owner who uses their appraisal service will be a profit for them. Don’t do it!
Ironically, visits to my domain name newswire DomainDizzy.com were up 500% yesterday, with people researching these domains and email contacts via the search engines.

pfDomains.com is pleased to announce three of its portfolio of gambling domains have been accepted into the Budapest Affiliate Conference, taking place in Hungary’s capital city from September 11th-12th.
Among approximately 200 domain names being auctioned will be the following from pfDomains.com:
MovingOdds.com
RealCasinoPoker.com
SportsbookTips.net
The organiser of the Domain Auction at the conference is GamblingInvest.com, and its CEO Pierluigi Bucciolo has written an article on the conference’s web site, explaining just how important it is for gaming and gambling companies to have the right domain name:
“A domain name can be the difference between success and failure for any new start-up”, says Buccioli, “And beyond that, URL’s have come to be recognised as a reliable investment opportunity and a low-risk trade which can turn into a sizeable asset. This is largely due to the traffic generating potential a domain can attract itself and to other sites directly linked. Not only can it re-enforce your brand and make your name recognisable, but it can also attract walk-in business and increase your SEO rating.”

pfDomains.com is pleased to announce the auction of www.UberTechnology.com. The auction, at Sedo – the world’s largest domain name brokers – ends on August 22nd at 2.32pm ET / 7.32pm UK
Uber is a German word meaning over or beyond, which has passed into common English usage as a prefix superlative, ie. to make the subject ultimate and unsurpassable, as in ‘uber cool’ or ‘uber athlete’.
Just this month (Aug 3rd) BusinesWeek reported on Google’s roadside billboard ad campaign stating:
“…A billboard campaign may sound slightly olde worlde for an ubertechnology leader like Google, but the roads concerned get traveled every day by millions of urban tech people heading into work–the target audience for Google…”
